The Headrow, Leeds

Project Name – The Headrow, Leeds

Main Contractor – Wates Construction

Works – To erect a complex external design scaffold to facilitate the repair and extension of a West Yorkshire landmark building. The main contractor brief was to provide scaffolding of various complexities – internally to enable the demolition and rebuild of the building transforming it into a highly coveted retail and office premise which has been acquired by blue chip companies like Argos, Sainsbury’s and TK Max.

Materials – The project required a vast amount of resources, with the external and internal scaffolds in excess of 1,300 tonnes.

Design – Due to the high profile nature of the building and the interface with the general public all scaffolding at ground level had to be designed and erected taking into account the high volume of pedestrian activity culminating in a design scaffold which had minimal amounts of scaffold founded on the pavement.

Comments – The companies willingness to plan and coordinate the scaffold works and working with their highly skilled engineer solving technical problems contributed greatly to the success of the project.
