Sir John Barrow Monument, Ulverston

Project Name – Sir John Barrow Monument, Ulverston

Main Contractor – Lambert Walker

Works – HT were contracted to provide full external and internal access to the monument to allow for repair and restoration works. The main contractor brief was to provide external access with NO physical fixings in to the façade. The project location required an access road to be built so materials could be transferred to the base of the monument at the top of Hoad Hill.

Materials

Design – The design had to take into account the removal of the top of the lighthouse and for the storage of the stones on a loading bay at 4m above ground. The full base of the scaffold was constructed using modular beams transferring horizontal and vertical loads down to the ground. Above the loading bay level a number of mechanical hoisting solutions had to be included within the design to allow for materials to be raised and lowered. The full façade of the scaffold was clad in breathable sheeting that has remained on the scaffold throughout the contract withstanding the most adverse weather conditions.
